About Me
Hi! My name is Mel. I am a structured literacy tutor who is certified by the Orton-Gillingham Academy at the associate level to provide tutoring for struggling readers of all ages – including those with dyslexia. Orton-Gillingham is an approach that is:
- Diagnostic and Prescriptive
- Individualized
- Language-Based and Alphabetic/Phonetic
- Simultaneous Multisensory
I believe students thrive when they are active, confident learners who take pride in their academic growth and accomplishments. With nine years of experience as a learning coach, along with my license as a substitute teacher in the state of Ohio, I am passionate about providing individualized support that helps students build skills, confidence, and independence.
When I’m not working, you can usually find me curled up with my cat, Heath Bar, and a good book, spending time in the garden, or heading out on adventures beyond the Shire with my husband and kids. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Bowling Green State University. Go Falcons!*
